Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about hiring our vintage china — from booking to breakages.
Booking & payment
How do I book?
Simply pop over to our contact page and let us know which items you’d like to hire, how many people you’re catering for and the date of your event, along with your name and contact details.
How much is the hire charge?
We charge per item, so you only pay for what you need, with a minimum order of £25 (excluding delivery). See our price list and quote calculator.
The only other cost is delivery, charged at 60p per mile travelled (based on your distance from our premises in Sheffield), with a minimum delivery charge of £15.
So if you’re 10 miles from our base, we’ll make the journey four times — 40 miles in total. At 60p a mile, that works out at £24.
When do I pay?
You’ll be invoiced for the full amount on booking, and full payment is required on or before delivery.
You can pay by cash, cheque, bank transfer, or credit or debit card (a 5% surcharge applies to card payments).
How far ahead should I book?
As early as you can — summer weekends and weddings are always the first to go. [Add your typical lead time, e.g. 2–3 months for weddings, a few weeks for smaller parties.]
Is there a deposit?
We invoice for the full amount when you book, and payment is due on or before delivery. [Confirm whether you take a deposit to hold dates booked far in advance.]
Do your prices include VAT?
[Confirm — e.g. “We’re not VAT registered, so the prices you see are the prices you pay.”]
Do you offer discounts for charities?
We love supporting good causes, from fundraising tea parties to community open gardens. [Confirm any discount for registered charities and community groups.] See our corporate & charity page.
Delivery & returns
Where do you hire to?
We’re based in Sheffield and happily hire to the rest of South Yorkshire and North Derbyshire. If you’re further afield, please get in touch to discuss.
How are the items returned?
There’s no need to wash anything. Just wrap the items carefully in the packaging provided and we’ll come and whisk them away.
How long can I keep the items for?
Our normal hire period is up to 48 hours. If you need the items for longer we’re happy to oblige — each extra day of hire is half the original price.
Can I collect and return the china myself?
[Confirm whether collection from Sheffield is possible, and any conditions.] If you’d rather we bring it, delivery is 60p per mile travelled with a £15 minimum.
Do you deliver at weekends or in the evening?
We’ll agree drop-off and collection times that fit around your event. [Confirm which days and times you deliver.]
Can you help at short notice?
Always ask — give us a call and we’ll tell you straight away what we can do. [Add any minimum notice you need.]
Do you lay the tables?
[Confirm — e.g. “We deliver everything boxed and ready to set out. Table laying is available on request for a small extra charge.”]
The china
Will the items match?
All our teacups and saucers are matching, and the rest of the collection is consistent in theme and elegance.
Can I hire for any occasion?
Yes, you most certainly can — as long as the china is treated with care and respect.
What if I break something (or it’s lost or damaged)?
Any items damaged or lost will be invoiced after your event, at the following breakage charges:
| Item | Charge if broken or lost |
|---|---|
| Teacup & saucer | £5.00 |
| Tea plate | £3.00 |
| Teapot | £25.00 |
| Coffee pot | £25.00 |
| Milk jug & sugar bowl | £4.00 per piece |
| Milk jug | £4.00 |
| Sugar bowl | £4.00 |
| Teaspoon | £5.00 |
| Sugar tongs | £10.00 |
| Cake plate | £10.00 |
What if something is damaged on arrival?
Please let us know straight away, otherwise breakage charges will apply. See our terms of hire for more.
How many guests can you cater for?
Our collection includes over 100 matching trios — teacup, saucer and tea plate — in more than 50 patterns. [Confirm current numbers and the largest event you can supply.]
Can I choose patterns, or see the china first?
Have a browse of our gallery to get a feel for the collection. [Confirm — e.g. “Tell us your colour scheme and we’ll choose patterns to suit. Viewings in Sheffield by appointment.”]
Do you hire tablecloths, cake stands or glass jugs?
Alongside the china we have embroidered tablecloths, cake stands and cut-glass jugs. [Add prices, or “just ask and we’ll include them in your quote”.]
Is the china dishwasher safe?
There’s no need to wash anything — just wrap it up and we’ll take care of cleaning after your event. [Confirm — e.g. “Please don’t put it in a dishwasher, as it can damage the gilding.”]
Changes & cancellations
Can I change my mind about my order?
Absolutely. If you’d like to add extra items or tweak your order, we’re happy to amend it — just get in touch.
If you wish to cancel, you can do so up to one month beforehand for a fee of 25% of the hire charge. After that, the full hire charge applies.
